O2 X1 on test

02_x1.JPG O2's excellent revamp of the XDA might be its high profile launch for this month, but it has another phone that has just gone on sale.

The big story with the X1 camera phone is that it is free, which in our book makes it great value.

Firstly it is pretty small for a camera phone coming in at around the same size as phones like the LG 7100. The effect is slightly spoilt by the protruding aerial, although, possibly because of this voice quality is spot on.

Screen quality with 65k colours is reasoanble and the images it takes via a camera with a rotating screen are pretty good quality. Other features include Calendar and Organiser (it can synchronise with Microsoft Outlook), Java, T9 predictive text, Call vibrate, Clock and Alarm and changeable Wallpapers.

Its big weakness though is that it is a pain to use. The menu is tricky to negotiate and on our sample the buttons were sticky and unresponsive.

Still, as it costs nothing there's hardly room to complain.

Complete pile opf wank. I have to try and get my mates handset data off his phone which has a broken screen - he says he didnt even drop it and reckons the screen was broken by overcharging the phone!!!!! You shouldnt even be able to overcharge a phone much less have it result in the screen being cracked - hence the phone is no unusable for anything except receiving calls and dialling from external memory sources.....

On top of which I cant find any appropriate drivers/software for retrieving the data & have to go try find yet another bloody data cable for the thing just so as to get his data off - which even then I,m not convinced I can do....(due to the screen being unreadable...)

Load of bollocks

Pile of shite.
Lack of PC connectivity is unforgivable in this day and age. No bluetooth, no IRa, not even cable connectivity....
Oh yes, and O2 customer service is appaling. This phone has just broken - I wasn't worried as I've been paying £5 per month for the insurance (Gold band no less) so I could get it replaced "if it gets dropped in a pint of beer" the sales guy said. He didn't mention the £25 excess charge....

DO NOT SIGN ANY o2 CONTRACT!!
I have spent over half an hour ON HOLD whilst trying to speak to a customer care adviser at o2, its just impossible.
This has happend on 8 occations!! at different times within 2 months.

I contacted ORANGE about opening a contract instead and i spoke to an adviser within 2 Mins!!

I'm now with ORANGE, and i can stick my fingers up at o2 and say "glad to say goodbye to a slow un-professional company".

Well done ORANGE!!

i first saw this phone in november it took me ages to get it.i have heard lots of bad reviews about the phone.it isnt as bad as people make it. it freezes now and again and turns itself off. the camera qualityis surperb and the motion recording is as well. one thing iam dissapointed with is that u can only fit 8 downloadable ringtones on the phone.apart from that i think the phone is brill and worth buyin
